~ W.Rabbit ~

A long time in the waiting, but I finally finished my version of the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland. I named him W.Rabbit because that is the name printed on his mailbox outside his house. He is made from a bright off white short mohair and matching curly longer mohair for his ruff, bib and haunches. I made him a standing humanistic style rabbit and he has armature in his legs so they never will collapse and he is held up on his toes with a dollstand designed to curl over his legs and this is covered nicely to suit his whole ensemble.

W.Rabbit is 18" tall from toe to top of head and 23" to top of ears. His alert ears are fused to a mauve toned ultrasuede so they are thin and realistic like real rabbit ears and they match the paw pads, the forepaws of which are intricately sculpted for realism. His forearms also have wire armature for posing. I sewed on a jewelry clasp to his left paw so that his pocket watch with silver chain can be attached to it, because afterall he must look at it to know "he's late for a very important date".

W.Rabbit is dressed in a combination of vintage and new. I used an old blue velvet doll coat completely reconstructed to suit him but I lined it with a magical silvery pinkish lavender opalescent lining to make the piece more fantasy oriented. To further enhance the surreal and magical nature I also used deep opalescent blue half dome buttons to fasten his coat at the waist with silvery chains. These same buttons are on his cuffs and above his fluffy tail on the cutout in the rear. His vest is a deep magenta as a great contrast to the royal blue. The velvet jacket is edged with opalescent white piping that I delicately appliqued onto the outer edging for a crisp design and to add stiffness to the jacket so it stays in place. I had his flared coat turn back to show off the magical pink lining. He wears a coordinated ascot style tie with the same magical blue/purple button pinned to it's center like a tie pin.

W.Rabbit has hardboard/locknut joints, armature and is stuffed with polyfil. He has the most remarkable deep mauve eyes. I know some white rabbits have pink or albino eyes but I made his mauve instead and they have irises and I outlined them with elaborate eyelids to make them quite realistic. His head is very elaborately needle and scissor-sculpted for character and I also stained his fur with shades of gray and mauve for dimension and to match his entire composition.

W.Rabbit has a decorated doll stand and comes with a heart hang tag in lieu of a tush tag and his pocket watch is perfectly scaled for him, but doesn't operate accurately that I can tell. I pick up these nice pocket watches for my buddies only because they are decorative and small scale. He will also come with a Certificate of Authenticity proving he's a “One&Only”Bear made by Michelle Lamb, three time 2010 TOBY Industry Choice Award winner. The reserve for this museum quality piece is $1100 and layaway is always available. Just email me for details.
